  Small Wool Blanket
Here is a small lap blanket made from fulled wool which I just finished:

The backing and binding are pieced silk:

The batting is a single layer cut from a cotton bedsheet, which keeps the blanket quite thin and light. It's 31 X 49 inches and it has a wonderful feel to it. The wool is very soft and a great contrast to the cool, smooth feel of the silk.

The wool pieces are butted together and zig-zagged, the silk pieces are turned under and zig-zagged to the batting. I then added some random stitching to some of the silk pieces to keep them from bunching up during the quilting. This is necessary because most of the pieces are not cut with the grain of the fabric, so they tend to stretch and distort without some stabilizing.

All the materials used in making this blanket are recycled/repurposed/salvaged. As a society, we discard so much that is still useful without a second thought, a fact that bothers me. Luckily, some of the stuff winds up offered for sale at very affordable prices at yard sales and thrift stores, the places where I shop for most of my materials. It feels good to use these discards and make them into something new and nice. The price of new fabric is beyond my reach because I exist on the edge financially, and what I make reflects that.
